The Righteous Are Not the Perfect Psalm 1:4–6

Writer: Prince A.O Adeyinka

Scripture: Psalm 1:4–6    Topics: Justification, Sanctification & Growth

Our hope for Look at the Book is to help you learn to read the Bible for yourself. We invite you to engage the passage first, and then to consider the featured study questions below before watching the lab.
In this lab, Prince A.O Adeyinka shows us that the righteous are not perfect. But they are those who trust God and live obediently from that trust.

Some questions to ask as you read and study Psalm 1:4–6:

When you read the Old Testament and read about the righteous, who do you think it is talking about?
Who are the righteous in Psalm 1:4–6? How do you become one of the righteous?
Watch the lab. What are the two aspects of “righteous” in the New Testament? Are you one of the righteous?

Principle for Bible Reading

Do Old Testament Promises Apply to Me?

As we read the Old Testament, we come across lots of promises God made to Israel. Do any of these promises apply to me? When reading Isaiah 41:10, for example, is it okay to trust that God will strengthen me, help me, and uphold me?

Prince A.O Adeyinka says yes based on Galatians 3 and 2 Corinthians 1:20. The promises to Israel were made to Abraham’s offspring. Paul ultimately identifies Jesus as that offspring. Because faith unites us to Christ, all of those promises are ours in him.
